Andy Slater tourney expands -- and quickly

Radio host Andy Slater's poker tournament has blown up, with prize money now 10 times what it was last month.

Slater, whose show airs weekdays from noon to 3 p.m. on 640 WMEN, had hosted nice little $64 buy-in tournaments with $6,400 in prize money in recent months, called the "Andy Slater, See You Later" tournament at Stax Poker Lounge at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek.

This month, the prize money is $64,000, and there are seven Day Ones. For $64 players can compete at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Friday (Aug. 16) and Saturday (Aug. 17). Players can enter as many flights as they wish and take their largest chip stack into Day Two, which is at 2 p.m. Aug. 18.

"It's been great to see so many people come out, and we couldn't have teamed up with a better venue than the Stax Poker Lounge," Slater said. "My only issue is that I haven't won yet, but this will be the perfect month to change that."

Tournaments in the past have had celebrities and bounties, but now that it's serious, they've done away with that. Instead there are four drawings each flight for a free entry into next month's event.
