Coconut Creek trying comedy

Continuing the trend of South Florida casinos going for laughs, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek is rolling out comedy.

Shows will take place Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the casino’s NYY Steak Legends Lounge. The first act will be Brad Zimmerman, who toured with Joan Rivers and appeared in “The Sopranos” as Johnny Sack’s lawyer.

Coconut Creek’s biggest competitor, the Isle Casino and Racing, began offering weekend comedy in February. Mardi Gras Casino in Hallandale Beach has an annual comedy challenge in the fall, and Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino has offered comedy in its Sport of Kings Lounge.

The March 19-20 act at Coconut Creek is Jim David (from “Showtime Comedy Club Network”), and March 26-27 will bring Maryellen Hooper, who has appeared on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.”
