Almost $18,000. That's how much Seminole Casino Coconut Creek officials said is going to victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy.
Those are the proceeds from ticket sales, plus donations from Seminole Casino Coconut Creek's Sixth Annual Blues, Brews and BBQ, event. (Actually it's $17,429.)A press release said the event smashed all previous attendance records, with a sold-out crowd of more than 1,500 April 20. The casino three days prior to the event that 100 percent of all ticket sales from April 15-20 would benefit The One Fund Boston, and the general public responded.
The event featured live music from Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Albert Cummings, Bonerama with Dave Malone of the Radiators, Tab Benoit and North Mississippi All-Stars. More than 100 varieties of premium beer were available for sampling, and all guests received a complimentary mini-mug to take home.
Local radio personalities said the best BBQ winner was Hickory Sticks BBQ, ($1,000); second place went to Lucille’s Bad to the Bone BBQ, and third to Sparky’s Roadside BBQ.The casino is at the corner of U.S. 441 (State Road 7) and Sample Road at 5550 NW 40 Street.
