Lovin' Spoonful at Mardi Gras Tuesday

Mardi Gras Casino hosts a 1960s costume contest Tuesday, followed by a concert by the Lovin’ Spoonful. The prize for best costume is $1,000 cash, with the runner-up receiving $500 in bonus play.

The concert is at the Mardi Gras grandstand. General admission is $10 in advance, premium seating $15 and VIP $25 and include $10 in free play at each level. On day of concert, tickets are $10 more.

Mardi Gras officials note that The Lovin' Spoonful is an American rock band of the 1960s, named to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Over a period of two years in the mid-1960s, the group charted ten Top Forty hits, seven of which placed inside the Top Ten at a time when the competition included Motown, the Beatles and  British Invasion bands. “Do You Believe in Magic” is one of them.
