Miami man claims $2M from record Powerball

Javier Diaz, 49, of Miami claimed a $2 million Powerball prize from Wednesday night's drawing, the one with the record $587.5 million jackpot.

Diaz had all five white numbers, but missed on the Powerball. He bought the lottery's Power Play feature, though, so his prize doubled.

Diaz purchased his winning ticket from Winn-Dixie, 3805 NE 163rd St. in North Miami Beach. The retailer received a $5,000 bonus commission for selling the ticket.

Diaz is the secondFlorida player to claim a $2 million prize from the drawing, which created six new Florida millionaires and 765,798 lower tier winners.

Powerball officials said the massive ticket sales generated approximately $58 million in transfers to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.

The next drawing will be at 10:59 p.m. Wednesday, but for only $50 million. Sigh.
