FYI on Lost: This season tied the story together more than prior seasons. It appears the overall story is similar to the movie Skeleton Key, a tale of people living for centuries. The island appears to be a host to souls. Jacob has lived there and lured people there for centuries. He freely leaves and returns, although we don't know how. We see the origins of the events stem from Egyptian civilization. The Others, led by Richard, are people lured to the island, who enjoy eternal youth but at what price? We thought Ben was sinister but found out he is a timid, frightened character, a pawn of greater forces. The Others have a dissenting group, who refer to themselves as the "good guys." They appear to be witness to Jacob's evil motives, though those are still unknown to the viewer. The Dharma Initiative was a scientific research group. An accident resulting from their research caused the Oceanic plane to crash. Ultimately, the final season will reveal the true identity of Richard and The Others. We will find out why Locke's body is in a crate, yet an identical flesh and blood Locke walks among Richard's people. We will see if the spirits of the island will be conquered or if the Oceanic survivors will become prisoners of the island. — M.S., e-mail

Wow, that's just what I was thinking.

What happened to The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency on HBO? We loved that show and all of a sudden it disappeared. — L.H., e-mail

The series starring Jill Scott was a British co-production and they do things differently over there. Only seven episodes were made. HBO is in discussion with its partners on a second season. HBO has received a wealth of positive feedback, according to someone with the premium channel. This would appear to enhance the likelihood there will be at least one more season.

What ever happened to Mad Men?

The AMC gem is between seasons. The third season begins on August 16.

I just returned from an awesome trip to Germany and was profoundly affected by my visit to a concentration camp memorial while I was in Berlin. It brought back memories of a movie I saw about a group of women in a concentration camp. It starred Vanessa Redgrave. I would love to be able to get my hands on that movie. I'm hoping you can help.

The movie is Playing for Time. Female Auschwitz prisoners were allowed to live as long as they entertained the troops with music. The 1980 flick is available on Amazon.com.

Fox News Channel is a master at making shows disappear without explanation. The latest is The Beltway Boys. I have given up on finding Fred Barnes and Mort Kondracke.

— J.W., e-mail

The Beltway Boys is no more but Barnes and Kondracke are regular contributors to Fox News programs, including the nightly Special Report.

I have been searching for a copy of the short-lived series Tribeca, produced by Robert De Niro. It aired in March and April of 1993, a total of seven episodes. This was the most compelling television I have ever watched. I wish so much I had taped the episodes. I have been unable to find a collection someone taped. Any help? — B.L.N., e-mail

Tribeca was a pretty special drama, as I recall. Unfortunately there is not much of an afterlife market for series with only seven episodes. There is no DVD or VHS release that I can find. Best I can do is throw it out on the floor and see if any readers can help. It's amazing how often they come through.

Please tell me that the season finales of In Treatment are not the end of the series. I think the acting is superb. I sincerely hope the series will continue next season.

— L.B., Pompano Beach

The quality of In Treatment is indisputable and it gets positive responses from HBO subscribers, I've been told. However, its future is uncertain. In Treatment is an adaptation of an Israeli series. The first two seasons used a lot of the ideas and dialogue from that show, which ran only two years. To mount a third season with all original material would be an enormous and expensive challenge. HBO would like to go on with the show but the expense might make it unfeasible.
