Tony Bennett to play Hard Rock; Jimmy Buffett coming to Cruzan

Tony Bennett

Bennett and Buffett: two performers with distinct personas -- basically, unduplicated -- and each is coming to South Florida soon.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday for Tony Bennett, who will perform at 8 p.m. March 14 at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood.

Bennett, 87 and still cool, has sold millions of records worldwide, and won 17 Grammy Awards (many of which could fetch big bucks at an antique store), including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In the past 10 years alone, he has sold 10 million records. And let's rattle off a few kudos: Kennedy Center Honoree in 2005, NEA Jazz Master in January 2006, a Citizen of the World from the United Nations and a Billboard Magazine Century Award. Sony Legacy will release "Tony Bennett: The Classics" on Tuesday.

Tickets cost $90, $80 and $70 (with fees tacked on top). Go to Ticketmaster.com or call 800-745-3000.

The new album, with 15 new songs plus a bonus track, was recorded last spring in various locales, including Key West, Nashville, Miami, St. Barts and London.

His first single is a duet with Toby Keith titled "Too Drunk To Karaoke," and that news alone puts to rest any fears Parrotheads might have had of Mr. Buffett feeling a need to get serious in his old age.
