Rising indie-pop singer-songwriter Tiago Iorc makes his Florida debut this weekend, thanks to the Rhythm Foundation, a consistent source of thoughtfully curated music from Iorc’s home country, Brazil.
The casually handsome Iorc grew up in Britain and the United States before returning to Brazil, and brings an uncomplicated charisma to the graceful melodies that distinguish his music, a perfect match for the laid-back vibe of Miami Beach’s North Beach Bandshell on a Sunday evening.
Iorc’s most recent studio album, 2015’s “Troco Likes,” warmed by the romantic vulnerability of songs such as "Amei Te Ver” and “Coisa Linda,” was a game-changer for the 31-year-old native of Brasilia, earning him two Latin Grammy nominations last year. The video for “Amei Te Ver,” which pairs the singer with young model and actress Bruna Marquezine, has more than 72 million views.
New York-based producer Andy Chase, who has worked with the Smashing Pumpkins and produced Iorc’s 2011 English-language album, “Umbilical,” found an evocative balance of fragility and a darker grittiness in Iorc’s voice.
“Tiago is both a classic and a contemporary soul, combining the best of singers like Nick Drake and bands like Radiohead,” Chase wrote in liner notes for the album. “I hope people can enjoy getting as caught up in the mastery of his lyrics and his beautiful, textural voice as I have.”
