John Legend - April 22-23
The multiple Grammy winner returns to South Florida, one of his favorite touring haunts, following a
judging gig on the ABC reality singing competition "Duets." Legend's hits include "Ordinary People,"
"Used to Love U," "Heaven" and "Save Room."
The former child pianist prodigy played with Lauryn Hill,
Alicia Keys, Twista and Janet Jackson before he was 'discovered' and signed by Kanye West.
Legend has returned the favor by providing an opening act platform for such then-rising talent as
Robin Thicke, India.Arie and Corinne Bailey Rae.
This time around he's performing in an
intimate, acoustic setting highlighted by guitar, vocal accompaniment and a string quartet.

If you thought video games had little to do with South Florida’s music scene, well, the Block x Blog festival just proved you wrong.
Local music stalwarts Plains, Jacuzzi Boys, Lil Daggers headline the inaugural music and arts festival, announced on Tuesday, which is billed as a showcase to bands and “pop culture, video game protagonists, 8-bit aesthetics, interactivity, and all-around nostalgia.”
Block x Blog, sponsored by local promoter Subculture and the Consequence of Sound blog, coincides with Radio-Active Records’ annual celebration of Record Store Day, held every April 20, where local record shops around the country celebrate buying those grooved vinyl discs in mom-and-pop record shops.
Local bands will perform simultaneously at Fort Lauderdale’s Green Room (109 S.W. Second Ave.) and America’s Backyard (100 S.W. Third Ave.), while Brooklyn electronic band Holy Ghost! plays Revolution Live (100 S.W. Third Ave.).
The local lineup also includes: Krisp, Millionyoung, Ex Norwegian, Suede Dudes, the Gun Hoes, Killmama, Sound Sleeper, Protoman and Astrea Corporation. The Vinyl-Only Art Show, a showcase of artworks printed on vinyl discs curated by artists Kristin Frenzel and Gina Bentivegna, takes place at 10 p.m. April 20 at Green Room.
Block x Blog runs 6 p.m. April 20 to 4 a.m. April 21, and tickets go on sale March 1. Entry is free at America’s Backyard and $25 for bands at Revolution and Green Room. Info: 954-449-1025 or JoinTheRevolution.net and Ticketmaster.com.
