Live music this week: Singing 2012's swan song

This year's newscasts were like a horror marathon: mass killings, face-eating, the presidential election. But 2012's bizarre run is nearly over.

During this last full week of the year, you may want to spend time at home wearing unnecessary holiday sweaters. But don't do that. Here are some alternatives to family time.

Miami-raised dancehall DJ and producer Diplo will play LIV Nightclub at 11 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets cost $46 for women and $68.10 for men at LIVNightclub.com. Remember to look your best or be out the money and left outdoors.

She may not ride a midnight train to Georgia afterward, but R&B singer Gladys Knight will be at the Hard Rock 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $53-$89.50 at Ticketmaster.com.

Revolution Live takes a break from its usual rock shows to book fiddle-heavy Americana band Donna the Buffalo, playing at 8 Friday night. It's a little country and a little Cajun, with band members citing zydeco as one of their influences. Tickets cost $27 at Ticketmaster.com.

Also on Friday, King Britt will spin at Bardot starting at 10 p.m. The Philadelphia DJ mixes jazz greats with contemporary artists such as Radiohead, making multilayered music he has said should be like a movie soundtrack. Head to BardotMiami.com for ticket info, but expect to pay about $30.
