In his memoir "Truth Be Told," talk-show host Larry King recalls his first meeting with Barbra Streisand during her March 1963 run at the Eden Roc's elegant Café Pompeii to promote her first album. "Her manager called me up and said, 'Nobody's coming. The waiters are standing on the tables applauding, but nobody else is here. Will you put her on the radio?' " King recalls that before the subsequent interview, Streisand told the host, "I know you don't know me. But you are going to know me, Larry King. You are going to know me." While Streisand's performance on Dec. 3 at the BB&T Center is her first South Florida show in a decade, her Dec. 5 concert at AmericanAirlines Arena will be her first in Miami-Dade County since she made her prescient vow to King more than 50 years ago. Making just a dozen stops on this tour, Streisand, 74, has earned reviewers' effusive praise not only for the caliber of her singing but for creating relaxed, reflective evenings that are, in the words of the Chicago Tribune, "distinguished by authenticity, honesty and intimacy."
