Ticket alert: Phil Collins' first North American tour in 12 years to open at BB&T Center

After more than a decade in semiretirement, English pop icon Phil Collins will embark on his first major North American tour in 12 years, kicking off the first leg Friday, Oct. 5, at the BB&T Center in Sunrise.

Tickets cost $50-$275 and go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 15 via Ticketmaster.com and pay-by-phone (1-800-745-3000), with a series of presales starting 10 a.m. Friday, May 11.

The Miami Beach resident and Grammy-winning singer behind “Against All Odds,” “In the Air Tonight,” “You’ll Be in My Heart” and other hits has sold more than 100 million records, some as a member of pop-rock legends Genesis in the 1970s and ’80s. Collins’ touring band will feature longtime collaborators, including guitarist Daryl Stuermer (a former Genesis touring bandmate), bassist Leland Sklar, percussionist Luis Conte and keyboardist Brad Cole. On drums will be Collins’ 16-year-old son, Nicolas, whose band What You Know performed at the 2017 Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival.

Collins has played sporadic shows in the 15 years since releasing his last album of original music, 2002’s “Testify,” notably a six-date tour behind his 2010 covers album, “Going Back.” He returned to the stage in 2014 for a one-off performance at Miami Country Day School, where his sons attended school. But he has since turned it on again during fundraisers for the Little Dreams Foundation, the Miami charity he operates with his ex-wife, Orianne Collins.
