First impression: Along with good food, this is a quirky, family-run restaurant where on one visit, there was a child playing on the computer at the front door and another doing homework at an empty table. Prices are much better than many similar restaurants.

Ambience: Nothing fancy about this brown and beige 70-seat dining room decorated with pictures of sushi.

Starters: Tom Yum Goong($3.95), spicy shrimp soup, was filled mushrooms, shrimp and cilantro. Goong Gahti ($5.95), fried shrimp in coconut batter, were nicely coated and served with a sweet sauce. Thai salad ($3.95) is a basic old-fashioned American iceberg creation made much better with the addition of the house peanut dressing. Eggplant tempura ($4.95) was over breaded and greasy. Every kind of sashimi and sushi can be found here, including such standards as spicy tuna roll ($10.95) and California roll ($5.95).

Entree excellence: There's a half and half split between Thai and Japanese dishes. We concentrated on the Thai side. Classic Pad Thai ($13.99 with shrimp or squid) has the deep brown color (and flavor) of authenticity. The kitchen has a nice way with curry sauce, sweet and creamy at the same time. It can be had with beef ($13.99), vegetables ($13.99) or whole snapper ($19.95). Volcano Tofu ($10.99) was a bit disappointing, in that the sauce lacked any distinct flavor.

Side issues: Be sure to try either the very good Thai ice tea ($2.50) or coffee ($2.50.

Sweet!: Thai donuts ($3.95), fried banana ($4.95) and lychees in syrup ($2.95) will all satisfy your sweet tooth.

Dining deal: Complete dinners that include spring roll, soup or salad, rice, main dish and dessert are priced well below $20. There's also a very long list of Thai lunch specials.

Service: Servers, most of them in long Thai skirts, work as group to make sure you have everything you need.
