Two CNN producers, Yon Pomrenze, 35, and Connor Fieldman Boals, 26, were arrested for trying to sneak past security at the World Trade Center in New York City in an attempt to report on recent security lapses at the site, police said.
Security at the World Trade Center site has been under fire recently after media reports of a teen sneaking in to take a selfie and a group of men BASE jumping from the top of One World Trade Center began to surface.
In an attempt to see how difficult breaking into the site would be, two CNN producers decided to do just that, according to The New York Times. Problem is, they failed miserably and ended up getting arrested.
Yonatan Pomrenze, 35, and Connor Fieldman Boals, 26, tried repeatedly to get into the site Tuesday afternoon. Armed with a video camera and a GoPro, they first tried to walk through the main gate, then tried twice to climb a perimeter fence, but were stopped.
They were arrested while trying to force their way through an electronic gate, Reuters is reporting. The men told the Port Authority Police officer that “if a 16-year-old could get on the site, they should also be able to get in.”
But a spokesman for the police department told Reuters that the 16-year-old may have been smarter in his strategy.
"He [the teen] had enough sense to try it at 4 o'clock in the morning," he said.
