Now that it's officially fall, the so-called song of the summer should be retired, especially after this incident.
40-year-old Steven Fillingim of North Florida is accused of beating a young girl for 40 minutes straight with a 2.5-foot long switch to the tune of "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke.
Fillingim apparently thought this was appropriate punishment because the girl had skipped school that day, according to the arrest report.
He also decided to use his cellphone to record a makeshift music video of the incident and text it to his girlfriend, who handed the footage over to authorities and rightfully dumped him, the report said.
The child, whose name, age and relationship to Fillingim were withheld, sustained bruises on the backs of her thighs from the alleged incident.
Authorities arrested Fillingim on Sept. 15 and charged him with cruelty toward a child and child abuse without bodily harm stemming from the "Blurred Lines" incident and other incidences ranging from Sept. 5 to Sept. 15 during which Fillingim is accused of beating the girl with a belt, forcing her to hold weights, and forcing her to shovel dirt.
Fillingim's bond was set at $15,000 and he has since been released from the Escambia County Jail in Pensacola, records indicate. Fillingim's court date is set for Oct. 4.Copyright © 2015, South Florida
