Ft. Pierce Police Department unveils armored vehicle.

The Fort Pierce Police Department is rolling out a 61,700-pound armored vehicle meant to transport SWAT personnel and to serve as a rescue vehicle and command center, according to a release from the department.

The Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle is worth about $700,000, but was bought with 5,000 miles on it for $2,000 thanks to the National Defense Authorization Act, which allows excess Department of Defense resources to be transferred.

The officers with the Fort Pierce Police Department hope to never have to use the vehicle, but if they do, criminals beware.

“If you see my SWAT team roll up in this thing… it’s over, so just give up,"  Fort Pierce Police Chief R. Sean Baldwin said in a press release.
