A Florida woman was arrested Friday after deputies say she strangled her 7-year-old dog because she didn't want anyone else to have it, according to a press release from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Shelley Bezanson, 28, had taken her pit bull-mix Diamond to the vet several times asking the veterinarian to euthanize it, but because the dog was healthy, the clinic's staff refused, the press release reads.
She told police that she would be evicted if she didn't get rid of Diamond, but she didn't want anyone else to have the dog. So on Nov. 14 she used Diamond's leash to strangle her, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports.
Bezanson is currently in the Sarasota County Jail on a $25,000 bond facing an animal cruelty charge.
