A Port St. Lucie man has been arrested after allegedly beating his dog, Scrappy, with a sawed-off shotgun.
A Port St. Lucie man was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after allegedly beating a dog with a sawed-off shotgun, WPTV reports.
Port St. Lucie police responded to Kyle Romain Hall's apartment Wednesday in response to a possible domestic disturbance.
Hall's girlfriend told police that Hall had become angry at their English bulldog, named Scrappy, for "tearing up things in the apartment" and defecating on the floor.
The girlfriend said the beating escalated as the dog cried and howled.
Hall filled up the bathtub with water and held the dog's head underwater before repeatedly beating Scrappy in the face with a sawed-off shotgun, according to the police report.
When the girlfriend tried to intervene, Hall pointed the gun at her, according to police.
Hall is facing charges of animal cruelty, aggravated assault and possession of a short-barreled shotgun.
Scrappy -- who was left "barely conscious, dazed and unresponsive" from the beating -- is recovering after being taken to Animal Kindness Hospital for treatment.
