Shaq endorses Chris Christie
Shaquille O'Neal has repeatedly said he wants to become Orange County Sheriff one day. But it's looking like he might be aiming higher -- and outside of Florida.
In a video posted on YouTube, Shaq has endorsed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in his re-election bid. "He's a good man. Excuse me, he's a great man," Shaq says in the video.
Why the sudden interest in New Jersey politics? Well, O'Neal, who was born in Newark, has been quietly immersing himself in Garden State doings lately.
He's gotten involved in some business deals in in the Garden State -- most recently developing a high-rise apartment complex in Newark.
He and Christie have been traveling around the state, appearing together at various functions. Christie also named him a statewide youth ambassador.
Christie is a likely candidate for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016, and if successful in his White House bid, that would mean N.J. governor's chair would be open. Hmmm, if only there were someone the popular Christie could annoint as his successor, right?
Maybe New Jersey would need another Big Fella in the big chair.Roger Simmons is the executive sports editor for the Orlando Sentinel. You can reach him via email at email@example.com.
