What to do with the kids: Wacky races, harvests fests

Wacky races take center stage in South Florida this weekend with a cardboard boat race in Hollywood and an adventure/obstacle race for kids and adults in Lake Worth that is modeled after the TV show "The Amazing Race."

Animal-themed events include the Halloween Horse Show & Fair in Pompano Beach, Bow Wow Ween in Pembroke Pines and the Pony Jail ‘n’ Bale in Coconut Creek.

If you’re looking for harvest festivals, several new festivals open this weekend, and Flamingo Gardens in Davie is celebrating “Princesses and Pirates Weekend.”

Oktoberfest Miami, Friday through Sunday.
