The tourist off-season brings with it specials designed to get locals inside South Florida restaurants.

All five of Burt Rapoport’s south Palm Beach County restaurants are offering free meals for children ages 12 and younger Sundays through Thursdays through the end of September. Guests receive one free kid’s entrée, which includes a drink, with the purchase of any adult entrée. The five restaurants are Bogart’s Bar and Grille in Boca Raton and all four Delray Beach restaurants: Henry’s, Deck 84, Burt and Max’s and Apeiro. Each restaurant has created new healthful options with the help of registered dietician Tamra Hammet. 'Donut Nation' book features two South Florida spots

Rhino Doughnuts & Coffee (Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Boca Raton) and Glazed Donuts & Coffee (Key West) are the only two South Florida spots featured in a new travel guide and cookbook called “Donut Nation: A Cross Country Guide to America’s Best Artisan Donut Shops.”

Author Ellen Brown includes more than 70 of the best doughnut shops across the country.

At Rhino, she sings the praises of pastry chef Keith Freiman, who worked at both Smith & Wollensky and Philippe before taken on doughnuts full time.

Key West’s Glazed Donuts shop even shared a recipe for its Pineapple brulee donut.

More restaurants offering deals to Broward Center ticket-holders

Eating before and after a show at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts just got a little cheaper

Four more Fort Lauderdale restaurants have been added to the Broward Center’s Preferred Restaurant Partners Program. There are now 10 restaurant deals to be had for ticket-holders at the Broward Center and Parker Playhouse. Just show your tickets for performances on the same day or evening that you’re in the restaurant.

The new restaurants are Café Vico, Himmarshee Public House, the Royal Pig Pub and Tilted Kilt. Here’s the complete list.

Dine out for life on Thursday

What started in Philadelphia in 1991 is now a countrywide fundraiser for HIV service agencies in 60 cities.

Dining Out for Life comes to Broward County Thursday, April 30, when 17 restaurants donate a portion of their sales to Broward House, which serves more than 5,000 people every year through direct service, housing and outreach.

This year, the Fort Lauderdale location of J. Mark’s will donate 100 percent of gross dinner sales to the cause.

Another 15 restaurants will donate 25 percent of their sales to Broward House. Some will donate only at lunch. Breakfast is also included at two restaurants. The list includes six Wilton Manors restaurants: 13 Even, Thirteen Restaurant and Bar, Wilton Creamery, Hobo’s Bar and Grill, The Pink Submarine and Rosie’s Bar and Grill.
