Casamigos Tequila founders George Clooney, Rande Gerber and partner Mike Meldman celebrated the launch of Casamigos at Rocco's Tacos in Fort Lauderdale Tuesday night.
According to the New York Post, actor Clooney and Gerber — husband of Cindy Crawford — created their own house tequila years ago when they both built houses in Mexico. They worked with a master distiller to create a tequila that was meant for their own consumption.
Casamigos is named after Clooney’s and Gerber’s houses in Mexico. It translates to “house of friends,” and signifies getting away and spending time with friends.
“We worked on the creation of Casamigos Tequila for over five years with our Master Distiller in Jalisco, Mexico, and conducted blind tastings with friends until we knew we got it right,” Clooney said in a press release..
Casamigos Tequila is a small batch and made from the finest, hand-selected, 100 percent Blue Weber agaves, which are grown in cool climate of the Jalisco Highlands of Mexico.
Gerber owns the Living Room, Whiskey Blue and Wet at W Fort Lauderdale. He also owns Whiskey NYC, Sky Bar at the Mondrian Los Angeles, as well as hot spots in Chicago, Scottsdale and New Orleans.
The tequila follows Gerber’s successful launch of Gerber’s Caliche Rum, a super-premium white rum introduced last march.
