You might call “My Key West Kitchen: Recipes and Stories” (Kyle Books, $29.95) by Norman Van Aken and Justin Van Aken a love letter to Key West.
As a young chef, Norman Van Aken landed in the Keys from the Midwest. The rest, as they say, is culinary history. He went on to create what is known as New World Cuisine and is the only Floridian in the James Beard Who’s Who of Food and Beverage in America. He’s currently director of restaurants at The Miami Culinary Institute / Tuyo and owner of Norman’s at the Ritz-Carlton, Grande Lakes, Orlando.
Along with his son Justin, the two chefs offer recipes and stories from classic restaurants and well-kept secrets. The book also surveys the current food scene and offers Van Aken staples.Copyright © 2015, South Florida
