Miami-based Burger King has introduced a new limited time Burger Fest menu.
Among the new offerings is a turkey burger ($3.99) - the first for Burger King.
If I was reviewing this new burger on the one-to-four star scale I use in my reviews, I’d give it a very solid 3 1/2 stars. It had a wonderful fire-grilled flavor and I loved the thick cut red onions, lettuce and top quality tomatoes. The serving size was generous My only complaint was that it had a little too much mayonnaise.
I’m not sure the new turkey burger is necessarily any more healthful than other menu items. I’m just glad to have more choices on those rare occasions when I find myself at Burger King.
The new turkey burger has 530 calories and 26 grams of fat. The chain’s grilled chicken sandwich has 510 calories and 22 grams of fat while a regular Whopper has 630 calories and 35 grams of fat.
I also couldn’t resist the new Loaded Tater Tots ($2.59/ 12-piece), fried nuggets of potato, bacon and onion with a crispy crumb coating. If you eat all 12 pieces, you’ve consumed 570 calories and 33 grams of fat.
Over the years, I’ve spent more time at McDonald’s than Burger King, most often at breakfast time for the Egg McMuffin. Starting April 22, Mickey D's will offer an egg white version called Egg White Delight. Tested in Atlanta and Austin last year, the egg white version has 250 calories instead of 300.
I can’t wait to try it. Subway and Dunkin’ Donuts have been doing egg white breakfast sandwiches for years.
