Barbara Magro’s ode to her mother — Carolyn Aloisi Magro — comes in the form of a cookbook.
It’s called “Recipes to Remember: My Epicurean Journey to Preserve My Mother’s Italian Cooking from Memory Loss” and tells the story of Magro’s mother being diagnosed with dementia in 2006. Magro, who lives in Fort Lauderdale, very quickly wanted to preserve not just her mother’s recipes, but the family traditions associated with eating.
The book is equal parts memoir, cookbook and explantation of what she calls an Alzheimer’s epidemic.
Magro, who lives in Fort Lauderdale, is hosting a dinner 5:30-10 p.m., Sunday at East End Brasserie (The Atlantic Hotel, 601 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, 954-567-8020).
The $60 per person three-course dinner featuring recipes from the book. A portion of the proceeds goes to Alzheimer’s research. Call the restaurant for reservations.
