That's where Sup comes in. This blog is here to share the most up-to-date information on eating out in South Florida.

We're just as interested in fast food and greasy spoons as in white tablecloth haute cuisine. Because going out to eat can mean a corner pizzeria, a paneled steakhouse, a fast food chain or a glitzy celebrity chef restaurant. We'll report adventures and misadventures. We'll talk about chains and independents. Like everyone else, we'll look for ways to save money on eating out.

John Tanasychuk, a features writer for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, has written about food and dining for most of his journalism career. He traces his interest in food to his parents, both country kids who taught him the importance of eating seasonally, whether it's asparagus in spring or duck in the fall.

Both excellent cooks, they also gave him a good restaurant education, from the corner diner to classic steakhouses. His father passed on his Eastern European cooking traditions. His mother loved the challenge of a complicated recipe.

Before joining the Sun-Sentinel in 1999, he spent 10 years at the Detroit Free Press first as a food writer and editor, restaurant critic and assistant features editor. For six years, Tanasychuk was the Sun-Sentinel's Palm Beach County restaurant critic.

These days, he's just as likely to write about his search for the best submarine sandwich as he is a four star restaurant.
