Stout Bar and Grill is the laid-back kind of spot to go alone and leave with friends. The Irish sports bar in Oakland Park has a tavern-like feel with a dark brick and wood interior. There are six HD TVs at the bar and about 40 throughout the restaurant.
During happy hour, which runs Monday through Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. throughout the restaurant, Stout's bar seats are mostly filled by 30-something guys in old T-shirts and baseball caps.
Most drinks are half-off during happy hour. This includes any of the 60 beers Stout has to offer or the newly expanded wine list, which has about 25 options. Craft beer choices come from regional breweries like Cigar City Brewing's Jai Alai IPA and Florida Beer Company's Florida Lager, as well as Vermont's Magic City Pale Ale and Louisiana's Purple Haze. Regularly, these beers range from $6.50 to $11. Wines include various merlots, cabernet sauvignons, chardonnays and sauvignon blancs, among others, and range from $6.50 to $12 by the glass.
Specialty cocktails, which are also available at happy-hour prices, put an Irish twist to well-known beverages. Mixed drinks include the Espresso Stout with Absolut Vanilla, Avion Espresso and cream; the Bloody Molly, with Jameson Irish Whiskey, Guinness Stout and Bloody Mary mix; or the McSorley's Malibu, with Malibu Coconut, Banana and Pineapple Rum, plus fresh fruit juices. They range between $8 to $18 before the happy hour discount.
All of Stout's appetizers and flat breads are half-off, except for the soup. Stout recently added some new items to the starters and flat bread menus, including the Banger Basket with Murphy's Irish sausage and French fries; roasted Brussels sprouts with Parmesan cheese and roasted garlic, and the veggie flat bread, with roasted vegetables, Kalamata olives and spinach cream sauce. The Stout Mini Shepherd's Pie is a popular dish, served with ground beef, peas, carrots, Guinness gravy and mashed potatoes. Appetizers range from $8.95 to $14.95 before the discount.
