We never would have expected to feature a happy hour that's inside a grocery store, but Whole Foods Market has mastered drink specials.
Take a break from the deli or the hot-meal station to visit The Watering Hole. The bar inside the Whole Foods Market in Davie has specials on food and drink.
While there's no liquor at this bar, there is plenty of craft beer and wine to go around. In fact, there are usually around 16 beers on tap and up to 15 wines by the glass available. And, if none of those are desirable, there's no corkage fee to open any bottle or beer purchased from the market.
Pick a seat at the bar that fits eight, or the 20-person community table, on Mondays from 5 to 8 p.m., to enjoy a burger and beer for $8.
Beers generally cost $6, and range from local brands like Funky Buddha's Sweet Potato Casserole to international types like Belgium's Delirium Tremens. The taps rotate as frequently as the keg runs out.
The Buffalo chicken nachos – house-potato chips with Buffalo chicken and blue cheese dressing – are normally $10, but on Tuesday, $8 will get a full plate of nachos with a draft beer.
Get a pint of beer along with a 10 to 12-inch hand-tossed peperoni or cheese pizza on Thursdays for $8.
Normally, pizzas are $9 and include chicken tandoori with mango chutney, margherita and the Killer Philly Cheese Steak.
End the week with their Sunday special, 10 boneless or traditional wings and a beer for $8.
Pompano Beach's Whole Foods has a similar space to The Watering Hole, called La Rachetta Pizza Wine Bar.
Its $8 bar specials are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays starting with a Rachetta pizza and craft brew. Unlike a regular round pizza, the Rachetta looks almost like a tennis racket, and the handle is filled with cheese.
Chicken Parmesan subs, with a beer, are served on Thursdays and the six-ounce burger and beer special is on Fridays.
La Rachetta keeps about 10 beers on tap and rotates them hourly. The 28-seat bar uses mini kegs to ensure the beers stay fresh. There's always an abundance of IPAs, lagers and stouts.
On Tuesdays and Fridays from 6 to 8 p.m., La Rachetta has a live singer performing anything from Barry White to David Bowie.
Happy hour: 5-8 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at the Davie location; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Pompano Beach.
