If all-you-can eat barbecue, craft beer and fine wine sound like your idea of fun, check out the American Institute of Food & Wine’s 9th annual Culinary School BBQ Battle 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Esplanade Park, 400 SW 2nd St., Fort Lauderdale.

Five competing culinary schools will offer barbecue brisket and side dishes. Prizes will be awarded by a professional panel. A people’s choice award will also be selected by guests.

Proceeds from this event support Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and The American Institute of Wine & Food’s scholarship fund and other programs. Students from Johnson & Wales University, Le Cordon Bleu, Florida International University, The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and Miami Culinary Institute will compete.

Along with barbecue, there will be food sampling stations from restaurants as well as beer, wine and spirits. Participating restaurants and businesses include Whole Foods, The Chimney House Grill & Café, Luigi’s Coal Oven Pizza, Sparky’s Roadside Barbecue, The Whole Enchilada – Fresh Mexican Grill, Susie’s Scrumptious Sweets and Rice & Dough.

Tickets are $50 in advance and must be purchased on-line before midnight Saturday. Prices are $60 on Sunday at the battle.
