Chef Angelo Elia now owns an Italian winery

Angelo Elia, who owns six Italian restaurants in South Florida and The Bahamas, has bought a winery in Sardinia.

The chef and wife Denise travel every summer to Italy. Last summer, they were invited to tour the Jankara winery, owned by longtime friends Renato and Angela Spanu. The Elias are now partners with the Spanus, who purchased the 21-acre estate in 2006 and planted 11 acres of Vermentino grapes in 2008.

Two years ago, the wine won a prestigious Italian wine competition. Elia has been serving it in his restaurants since 2011.
