Boulud Sud Miami
JW Marriott Marquis, 255 Biscayne Blvd. Way, Miami, 305-421-8800, BouludSud.com
Restaurant magnate and chef Daniel Boulud has transformed his 7-year-old DB Bistro Moderne into this Mediterranean concept, the second location after debuting in 2011 in New York.
“A couple of years ago, we decided to do a pop-up of Boulud Sud at DB Bistro, and it was very well received,” Boulud says. “Today, Boulud Sud feels like a better fit for Miami with more vibrant flavors and lighter dishes. It’s more than just Mediterranean and French cuisine. It encompasses ethnic flavors from Turkey, Greece, North Africa, Lebanon and beyond. It’s sophisticated without being fussy, just like those areas of the world.”
Signatures include Arabic lamb flatbread ($19), shrimp al a ajillo ($19), octopus à la plancha ($21) and Moroccan chicken tagine ($28).
For dessert, grapefruit sorbet, sesame foam and Turkish cotton candy fill a carved-out grapefruit ($13), perhaps to pair with the gin Grapefruit Blossom cocktail ($15).
The Southern France-inspired decor incorporates framed couches under a white lattice wall, driftwood between camel-colored banquettes, teal-and-white Mediterranean floor tile and cloudlike chandeliers that appear to drift under a soaring ceiling. The terrace features striped cabanas and swing chairs.
Weekday lunch, Sunday brunch and nightly dinner, except Sundays, are served.
