Six spots for brunch

Weekend brunch doesn’t have to cost a hundred bucks a head.

In fact, there are plenty of inventive restaurants that fall somewhere between egg-and-toast-diner and sumptuous buffet. Here are a half dozen.

Red Cow (1025 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, 954-652-1524, brings a bit of barbecue and a bit of the South to its 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday brunch. Look for such dishes as the Low Country Breakfast with house-made cheese grits, pulled pork with North Carolina barbecue sauce and two eggs. Smoke and Fire combines house made bacon with grilled avocado, smoked tomato and sriracha aioli.

Rosie’s Bar & Grill (2449 Wilton Dr., Wilton Manors, 954-563-0123, Starting at 11 a.m. on Sundays, there’s a DJ in the corner and a crowd on the patio digging into such dishes as The Fat Elvis, which starts with a ripe banana covered in crunchy peanut butter that’s then stuffed into challah, dipped in batter and deep fried.

Brewzzi (2222 Glades Road, Boca Raton, 561-392-2739, For those who like beer with their breakfast, Brewzzi will serve a pint of its Boca Blonde lager along with Boca Blonde pancakes to which you can add blueberries, chocolate chips or bananas. The Crunchy Brewery French Toast is dipped in beer batter, fried and then coated in corn flakes, coconut and powdered sugar.

Caffe Luna Rosa (34 S Ocean Blvd, Delray Beach, 561-274-9404, turns out very good Italian fare at night. But for its breakfast and brunch, you can start with a Bloody Mary Antipasto and move on to breakfast pizza, where pizza dough is topped with breakfast sausage, apple smoked bacon, roasted peppers, spinach, mushrooms, cheese and two eggs. The pastrami or corned hash omelets are also standouts.

Morgan’s (28 NE 29 St., Miami. 305-573-9678, Morgan’s brunch is served everyday inside and on the porch of this big old house in the Wynwood neighborhood. Look for chicken and waffles, house made sticky buns, chocolate dipped waffles or the richly over-the-top Voluptuous Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

Tongue & Cheek (431 Washington Ave., Miami Beach, 305-704-2900, Free coffee is always served at the weekend brunch 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The menu includes Fried chicken and cheddar waffles and Benedict of braised brisket with braised greens and Tabasco Hollandaise topped on English muffins. The raw bar offers stone crabs, Key West pink shrimp and local whitewater clams.
