Tampa Bay beers pouring now in Coral Springs

The Tampa Bay Brewing Company has been sudsing up Florida's west coast since 1996, but a tap house oozing with TBBC beers has made its way to Coral Springs.

The bar had its grand opening on March 8, and I checked it out on March 29. Here's what I found:

The strip mall housing Coral Springs' TBBC was mostly quiet and dark when I arrived around 8 p.m. on a Friday, but almost all the parking spots just outside the bar's entrance were taken. Some booths are set up by the door for smokers and outdoorsy drinkers.

If you sit at the bar, expect attention from the barback, bartender, and at least one guy sitting at the bar. The contractor who built the place happened to be sitting nearby, but eventually he stepped behind the bar to chat up other customers.

It's a low-key watering hole, decorated with amber wood accents. A lone guitarist was playing old rock covers during my visit, but it wasn't loud enough to require shouting for conversations. You can order grub from a nearby wing shop, a la World of Beer -- WOB also happens to be a product of Tampa Bay. The bar serves wine as well, and root beers are made in-house.

The beer list includes interesting drafts from other breweries, but TBBC offers nine of its own styles aside from special releases. I'd recommend the One Night Stand Pale Ale, which is just a bit hoppy but not bitter at all, and the Jack the Quaffer London Porter, which has noticeable coffee notes without being cold, carbonated java.

I won't say TBBC makes my favorite beers, but it's a chill option for Coral Springs residents, with refreshingly reasonable prices. (The sampler flight cost $10.60 plus tip.)
