The day before this year's Super Bowl, Whole Foods Coral Springs will hold its sixth annual Beer-Offs. The grocery chain is looking for "beer connoisseurs" to judge eight brews at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2.
Anyone with a little beer knowledge and a valid, legal-drinking-age ID can join, but only the first 50 to pre-register will participate. Just call the store at 954-753-8000 or walk up to the customer service attendants. There's no fee to register, but the store will welcome canned donations for the Broward Outreach Center.
The beers up for judgment are mostly Euro-brews, but Sam Adams Imperial White and Cigar City Maduro Brown are among the lineup. Innis and Gunn Rum Cask and Palm, last year's winner, are also included.
I'm a sucker for American beers, but if nothing else, the Whole Foods Beer-Offs are a good way to pre-game for the Super Bowl with some free brews.
Call soon; Whole Foods' Jonny Rose expects spots will fill quickly.
