With its chicken and waffles dripping in marshmallow sauce, Swank is obviously not your ordinary soul food spot. The new Davie restaurant spins Southern cuisine as a "modern day saloon with a little bit of Wynwood and a little bit of the South," says co-owner Alex Malagon. Malagon also co-owns the popular Wynwood restaurant Soi Chinese, another fusion joint.
Swank's chefs hail from Tuyo, Swine and Yardbird, and they all serve up hearty comfort food. They also boast a wood smoker, plus food that is locally sourced. Malagon adds that none of the food is frozen or prepared earlier.
Two highlights: They use grits that are from Anson Mills, considered the "Holy Grail of Grits," from South Carolina, says Malagon. Their bread pudding is also from a recipe by the co-owner Oscar Ferreia's mom, Chary, otherwise known as "Momma Swank."
Swank is located in Davie, so after getting your line dancing on at the town's many country music clubs, you can chow down on some fried green tomatoes.
