Tex-Mex comes to Davie

A Tex-Mex franchise expands into Broward County

Taco Rico Tex-Mex Café

3325 S. University Drive, Davie, 954-474-6448, TacoRicoTmc.com

After sprouting seven locations since 1992, this burgeoning Tex-Mex chain has launched its first branch outside of Miami-Dade County in the previous Marco's Pizza.

"A great little rodeo town like Davie has gotta have a classic Tex-Mex restaurant," says franchisee Jason Robichaux, who missed Taco Rico when he moved from Coconut Grove in 2012. "Our final selection of the location was based upon the immediate proximity of NSU, Broward College and FAU, with the added plus of University Drive being highly traveled."

A six-salsa bar enhances complimentary chips while waiting for selections such as chili con queso ($5.49), jalapeño poppers ($5.99), chimichanga platter ($7.99), California-style tacos de la casa (chicken or pork, $7.99; fish, $10.49), Baja chicken bowl ($8.99) and fajita salad ($8.29). Lunch specials range from $5.99 to $7.59. Cocktails will soon join the beer and wine.

Lunch and dinner are served daily amid Mexican handicrafts and 26 seats with an ocher and brick-red scheme and paintings by Roberta Neal, the founder's mother. Ceiling fans help cool a covered patio.
