This mini taqueria chain, founded three years ago in Weston, has opened a third location a couple of blocks from the beach in front of a marina.
Monica Angulo, who also owns a branch in Pembroke Pines, was raised in Colombia.
“Moving to South Florida after living in Texas, then between New York City and Mexico, and representing Mexican companies throughout Latin America and U.S. my entire life, I missed authentic Mexican food,” she says.
Beef and chicken empanadas topped with queso fresco and Mexican cream, called zapatistas, are her mother’s recipe ($12.99). Other highlights include steak stew ($9.90), pork tamales from Oaxaca ($10.90) and fajitas for two from northern Mexico, called alambres ($26.90-$32.99).
Libations include micheladas ($5.99), sangria ($7.90) and flavored margaritas, such as passionfruit ($8.99).
Lunch and dinner are served daily, plus breakfast Friday and weekend brunch, amid a rainbow of Mexican colors and multicolored chandeliers. A musician on Fridays and a DJ on Saturdays perform Spanish music.
“Every chair, table, bar stool are hand-painted,” Angulo says.
Summer plans call for a deck and back patio.
Up next: sister restaurant, I Love Cuba, opening next door this summer.
