This 19-year-old, Old World Italian restaurant renovated and branded its bar this winter with the name Bar Amaro.
“I want to augment the experience by offering a wide array of both classic and innovative cocktails, where we can welcome our guest with a true classy Italian ambiance,” chef owner Angelo Romano says. “The focus is to create high-end mixology using classic Italian liquors, as well as modern craft spirits, fresh herbs and local sourced ingredients.”
Light cocktails ($10) include the Basilica, with grappa-based liqueur, basil, Aperol, pineapple and lime; and the Road to Seville, with sherry, Cocchi Americano, prosecco and Seville orange bitters. Bolder libations ($13) include the Oude Fashioned, with toasted caraway; and Aero Di Carta, with bourbon, amaro, spiced peach shrub and lemon.
“All the decor and layout of the lounge has changed completely. Now, we have beautiful decor,” Romano says.
The modern, chic surroundings feature whitewashed Chicago brick, subway tiles, a white-quartz bar top, 12 bar seats, a communal high top and eggplant-colored sofas.
Modern Italian bites include polenta fritta ($5), eggplant parmigiana slider ($6) and branzino ceviche ($18).
Nitrogen chocolate-hazelnut gelato for two is prepared tableside ($18).
