This 45-year-old, Miami-based Cuban bakery chain has opened its third location in Broward County in the former Elle's.
"We picked Miramar because of its great cultural diversity as a city and the rapid growth it has shown over the last few years," co-owner Alicio Pina says. Other Broward locations are in Pembroke Pines and Cooper City. "Our neighbors and the business community are very excited to have a Vicky Bakery in their neighborhood."
A new line of specialty coffees ($4.25-$4.95) features dulce de leche macchiato and cappuccino.
More than 200 items rotate with fluctuating prices. Highlights include pan con bistec ($5.99), Cuban sandwich ($5.99), baked or fried empanadas ($1.50-$1.75), croquetas (65 cents to $1) and pastelitos (95 cents), such as guava, queso or meat. Sweet temptations include flan de leche ($2.30).
The warm, funky atmosphere is rustic Cuban meets American industrial with the pastry showcases as the focal point. Inspirational messages are scrawled on distressed walls under high ceilings, and accents include antique copper pieces, vintage furniture, wine-cask lids on the wall, pendant lighting and high-top tables with swivel chairs. Sidewalk seating is covered.
Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Other Broward locations are in Pembroke Pines and Cooper City.
