Funky Buddha Brewery announces inaugural craft-brew cruise

Staff writer

It’s a first for South Florida’s craft-beer industry.

Funky Buddha Brewery is teaming up with Celebrity Cruises and Pembroke Pines’ Be Well Travel to present a four-day craft-brew cruise. It will set sail March 12 from Port Everglades and include a beer-pairing dinner, a panel discussion and a Key West craft-beer pub crawl.

“There really aren’t any craft-beer cruises on the East Coast,” Funky Buddha’s John Linn says. “There are a few places on the West Coast doing it, and there are some high-end ones. We wanted to make sure whatever we did was affordable and that we had the value in there.”

Double occupancy inside staterooms start at $521.80 per person and rise to $811.65 for balcony suites. It’s an additional $100 for three group events and $30 for the pub crawl. Ten cabins were booked in the first three days after the cruise was announced on social media, Linn says.

The Oakland Park brewery thought about partnering with another beermaker, but decided to start small, “succinct and digestible,” Linn says. “I think in the future, we may want to do a seven-day cruise. And if we do that, we’ll definitely partner up.”

Along with the cruise, Celebrity will soon begin carrying Funky Buddha beers on all its Florida based ships. For more information, call 954-589-5669 or visit
