French bistro opens in the Gables

Brasserie Central

Chef and restaurateur Pascal Oudin of the acclaimed fine-dining Pascal's on Ponce has unveiled his new venture nearby.

"I wanted to create an authentic Parisian bistro, something casual and affordable with traditional French fare where people could waltz in and have a light bite or an extravagant meal," Oudin says. "I loved the idea of housing it at Merrick Park because there is such an urban European vibe there; it makes one feel they are roaming southern Le Marais."

A broad menu encompasses a raw bar, house-made charcuterie, such as duck foie gras terrine ($19), artisanal cheeses ($6-$19), hors d'oeuvres, such as potato-leek vichyssoise ($8) and steamed whole artichoke ($13), salads ($8-$14), sandwiches ($14-$17), cocotte stews ($15-$26) and entrées, such as braised lamb shank ($28). A special afternoon glacerie menu features ice creams, crepes, waffles and coffees.

Lunch and dinner are served daily in a long room with giant chalkboards, bistro chairs, open kitchen and an indoor/outdoor bar near courtyard seating.

Weekend breakfast and Sunday brunch are to come.
