South Florida is having a bourbon moment.
First, Yardbird Southern Table and Bar (1600 Lenox Ave., Miami Beach, 305-538-5220, RunChickenRun.com) is included in the Bourbon Review's list of America's 55 Best Bourbon Bars.
It's the only Florida spot that got a nod, and the magazine's critic for the list's Southern bars recommends the Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade ($12). It's made with fresh-pressed lemon juice, organic blackberry and cardamom, and topped with sparkling wine. The bourbon is Buffalo Trace, the self-proclaimed most-award-winning distillery in the world.
The bar's bourbon flights make an ideal prelude to Yardbird's fried-chicken-and-waffles dinner, served with bourbon maple syrup.
Starting Sunday, Bourbon Steak (Turnberry Isle Miami, 199999 W. Country Club Drive, Aventura, 786- 279-6600, BourbonSteakMiami.com) will celebrate National Bourbon Heritage Month with several special bourbon cocktails.
The Vieux Carré cocktail ($18) features bourbon that's barrel-aged onsite up to 21 days at the Michael Mina restaurant. It's a combination of Hennessy V.S. Cognac, B&E Bourbon, Cocchi Sweet Vermouth, Bénédictine liqueur, angostura bitters and Peychaud's Bitters served with a lemon twist.
Throughout September, the restaurant will feature weekly cocktail specials ($15 each) and bourbon flights ($25). Flights will be served tableside and every week spotlight a different distillery, including Angel's Envy, Tuthilltown, Michter's and Suntory.
