The owners of Christina Wan's Mandarin House have debuted their third concept in the short-lived Giraffas Brazilian Grill, next door to their 2-year-old Temple Street Eatery in the Fresh Market plaza.
"After 50 great years of serving South Florida some of the finest Chinese food, we have decided to venture out to a chef-inspired breakfast and lunch restaurant in the middle of Victoria Park and FAT Village," says Christina Huynh, whose maiden name was Wan. "Our menu takes American classics and focuses on executing them well."
Highlights include the Power Wrap with egg whites, house-roasted turkey, cucumber, tomato and feta with a side of kale salad ($8), Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with berries ($9), Chorizo Hash with poached eggs, roasted poblano sauce and tarragon aioli ($12), Smoked Salmon Frittata ($12) and fried chicken atop a bacon-studded waffle with spiced syrup ($18). The Funfetti Waffle with strawberry syrup can double as dessert ($8).
Beer-based cocktails and mimosas change weekly (about $10).
A dark-blue industrial ceiling contrasts gray walls while red semicircular booths and banquette match the tiled open kitchen. Overhead, food quotes are scrawled on chalkboards. Sidewalk seating and house-made bakery goodies are in the works, and dinner will launch in the fall.
