Oktoberfest isn't much of a big deal in South Florida. Beer lovers and brewpubs may host parties, and microbreweries may distribute their timely beers through our peninsula's tip, but there are no parades or carnivals, and nobody puts on even a week-long event.
But this year, Fritz and Franz, the pricey-but-traditional German bar in Fort Lauderdale and Coral Gables, is putting together the first Oktoberfest celebration on Las Olas Boulevard.
The free Las Olas Oktoberfest, to be held on the lawn of the Riverside Hotel, will bring Fort Lauderdale German drinks and eats from Friday, Sept. 28, to Sunday, Sept. 30. That's three days of kölsch beer, schnitzels and jodeling. I'm particularly eager to check out the beer selection at the fest, which isn't hinted at on the event page.
