Last month I blogged about Leblon Cachaca's efforts to have the spirit recognized as a uniquely Brazilian product. Now that the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau budged, the brand is hosting parties in Fort Lauderdale bars.
On Thursday, April 11, Leblon Cachaca girls will hit spots on the beach from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., including Rock Bar (219 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd.), Sangrias (221 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd.) and Spazio (239 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd.).
The trade bureau's recognition is a big deal for Leblon because cachaca is a cultural staple of Brazil, but a little-known liquor outside that country. By acknowledging that the sugarcane-made drink is solely Brazilian, the bureau helps Leblon promote its product and prevent the sale of imitation liquors. Think of it as a tequila situation -- that spirit can only come from certain regions of Mexico.
For a free caipirinha, arrive at the bars early to receive a drink coupon. Quantities are limited.Copyright © 2015, South Florida
