Sustainable cocktails at the Living Room South Beach

Tom Hiller, bar manager at the Living Room in the W Hotel on South Beach, took some time to show me his new lineup of locally sourced cocktails recently. Some of the drinks, such as the Paloma Hermosa (tequila, elderflower, egg whites, agave), are garnished with fresh-cut edible flowers grown in Homestead farms. But they're not just new drinks -- the Living Room's updated cocktail list is part of a program to embrace more-sustainable bar practices, and the farms on contract employ homeless locals. Hiller says the point is to serve fresh, flavorful drinks while keeping social and environmental consciousness. Click through the photos for menu highlights, but when you walk up to order, remember: Any good bartender's Old Fashioned will knock you off your feet. Hiller's Negroni is simple, clean and aromatic, but his Miami Manhattan is the best blend of bitters in South Florida. -- Maria Murriel, @mariamurriel
