Miami Beach isn't for everyone. At least the South Beach area of the island can pack too many neon-lit gift shops, rude taxi drivers and large-entourage superstars in one punch. But North of 41st Street, the scenery changes, and places such as the street-side Cafe Prima Pasta are the norm in dining. The Italian joint sets up guests at a prime people-watching spot between the ocean and the Byron Carlyle Theater, and on Thursdays, Prima Pasta offers a seven-hour happy hour. Kosher martinis are available from 5 p.m. to midnight every week at the bar or on the patio. For bites, choose from pasta purses with fontina cheese, prosciutto and Asian pear bathed in truffle sauce, or classic dishes such as tuna carpaccio and prosciutto di Parma.
Happy hour: 5 p.m.-midnight Thursdays
Recommended drink: Lychee martini, made with L'Chaim kosher vodka
Location: Cafe Prima Pasta, 414 71st St., Miami Beach, 305-867-0106, CafePrimaPasta.com
