Las Olas Boulevard's resident craft-beer bar is celebrating its first birthday all week long. Well, almost. Starting June 12, American Social will put on first-anniversary events for five days.
On Wednesday, it's Cigar City night. Some experts from the brewery will be around to assist with the tap takeover and dish about the Tampa-made brews.
Thursday's Cystic Fibrosis Foundation fundraiser goes on from 6 to 8 p.m., and guitarist Freddy Freund will go onstage after that. Friday night, the live music will come from Steve Chumley (7-10 p.m.) and DJ Eran Hersh (10 p.m.-3 a.m.).
The weekend's brunch hours are 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Both days will feature unlimited Bloody Marys and mimosas for $15, and the music on Saturday will be by the Miami Dolphins' DJ Supersede.
For table reservations, which are probably a good idea, call the bar at 954-764-7005. American Social is at 721 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.
Later this month, a South Florida craft-beer stronghold will also celebrate its anniversary. The Abbey Brewing Company in Miami Beach is turning 18, and for its coming of age, the brewpub will pour free beer.
The open bar, which will include some of the pub's draft selections, will last from noon to 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 30. The rest of the day (and night), draft will go for $4, and shots and well drinks for $5.
Those who arrive early will be invited to munch on the complimentary pig roast that will be served till the meat runs out. The Abbey, at 1115 16th St., will open at 11 a.m. that day.
