Wynwood celebrates its first brewery's grand opening

The Magic City is catching on: Miami's first brewery is finally opening.

I know, you might be thinking, "What is she talking about? Schnebly's has been making beer forever!" But Schnebly Winery is in the Redlands, not in Miami.

The Magic City, the bayside patch of Miami-Dade County shaped like a penguin trying to take flight, will receive its first beer-making venue when Wynwood Brewing Company oficially starts operations this month.

WBC's beers have poured at local festivals, bars and tasting events for months. Brewer Naga Reshi has been working on a lineup including the Wynwood IPA, La Rubia blonde ale, and Pop's Porter. Meanwhile, owner Luis Brignoni has been wrapped in red tape trying to get the brewery open.

Now that permits have been acquired and beers have fermented, Wynwood Brewing's grand opening party will be hosted at Gramps Bar, 176 NW 24th St., on Monday, Sept. 23.

Before that night, when all the brewery's drafts will cost $5, catch Wynwood beers at Wood Tavern, 2531 NW Second Ave., during Art Walk this Saturday, Sept. 14.

The tap room, Brignoni says, should open sometime in October.
