This patriotic-themed, Maryland-based chain, which debuted on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, has opened its first South Florida outpost in the former Old Florida BBQ.
"This location is in a very active market that is home to Broward County police and fire academies, the Miami Dolphins and Nova university," says co-founder Bill Kraus, whose sons are in the Marine Corps Reserves and the Naval Academy. "We so look forward to proudly serving these wonderful American heroes that call Davie home."
Favorites include North Carolina pulled pork sandwich ($6.79), Texas-inspired brisket ($8.79), baby-back or St. Louis spare ribs ($2.19-$18.99) and jalapeño-cheese sausage ($5.99).
"We smoke on-site all day every day," co-founder Stephen Newton says. "We have all the stalwarts of a great barbecue place."
Lunch and dinner are served daily amid corrugated metal, concrete floors, wood tables, butcher-block counter top, military and firefighter memorabilia, yellow walls with one dedicated to 9/11 and a front patio with picnic tables and umbrellas.
The national anthem is sung at noon daily.
